A message from Acacia and InfoSat
to all who are not at the conference
Dear ICT development addict
Wish you were here!
We’re having a great time here in the African
bush. Nestled against the “Place of the Rock” in the Northwest Province,
Kwa Maritane has turned out to be a great venue to demonstrate remote
connectivity. Here at the IDRC Acacia “Networking Africa’s Future” we are
enjoying each others company and missing you.
Our sponsors have done us proud:
-
Sentech are providing a 1Mb V-SAT Link for our
internet café
-
InfoSat has provided us 384K worth of
asymmetrical satellite internet bandwidth which is driving a WiFi
wireless environment for the conference, supplied by Wireless G (Wi-Tel,
Intel). At any one time the graphs show us that 25-30 delegates are
surfing the web during the conference sessions: that is while they are
sitting in the conference they’re using their laptops powered with
wireless cards (can take a tech junky to the bush, but can’t get them to
let go of the tech).
-
Telkom has provided us a 512K VSAT link to the
media lab where a team of journalists are producing the Acacia WebTimes,
to keep you folk part of our conference, take a look at
www.acacia.org.za and follow link
to Acacia Web Times.

are missing at

Transtel has provided internet access &
broadcast quality video streaming at their stand via their 1 Mb satellite
link & will teleconference delegates from the European Union via their
state of the art conference “bridge” in Johannesburg.
We have more connectivity here then the average
Small-to-Medium Enterprise in South Africa. This is a show-and-tell of the
possibilities of connecting Africa.
This email is coming to you via the temporary
webmail platform supplied by InfoSat for the use of the delegates during
the conference.
See you soon,
Heloise Emdon
