The three 21st century pigs

A parable

Retold by Matthew White

It is axiomatic that a changed environment will pose different problems and require new solutions. Take the changed situation of the three little pigs as related by Shoestring actor Elliot …

  • LP #1 lived in a larney brick house but, thinking he was secure, did not bother to keep abreast of events. Wham! The demolition squad did their stuff and next day the development wolves moved in to build a car park.

  • LP#2 dropped out to live in a teepee made of sticks to practise Zen meditation while levitating with the aid of dagga. Afterwards he was never quite sure what had happened, but when he came down he, too, was homeless.

  • LP#3 chose to share the lives of millions of rural poor, living in a mud hut under a thatched roof. But because he had Internet access he was aware at an early stage that the wolves were planning to build a new road right through the village. He protested, petitioned and mobilised opinion, forcing the wolves to find a new route far away from the village.

Is that success? Hey Elliot, maybe they should have just moved their huts to the side of the new road and opened a telecentre and a fast-food joint.
