Networking Activists

Researchers and activists who are geographically dispersed can communicate with each other, spread their message, and keep a presence by using the Internet.  However, many of these organisations have found that:

  1. the cost of keeping the network going is very high

  2. have needed to continue to rely on experts to service them

  3. if they have developed their own webs and info services, they may be sitting on a problem because the project has grown too large

The same problems of software, hardware and warmware that affect networked schools and communities are relevant here. To create efficiency within the researcher and activist network, it is essential that these problems be solved.

Go to the workshop session.

Some relevant projects are:

  • Women's net

  • Green network

  • Arise (researcher database)

  • Cape Sonke Route

  • NRM-IUCN

  • Forum Mulher (forum of women in Mozambique)

  • Christian Council of Mozambique
