About ICTs for development (ICT4D)

Information and communication technologies (ICTs) have transformed the way people in the industrialised work live and work. It is generally believed that they also have the potential to make a difference to the lives of people in developing societies, such as in Africa. The Acacia programme initiative is testing this proposition.

Acacia is helping sub-Saharan African communities develop the ability to use information and communication technologies for their social and economic development. In fact the IDRC was among the pioneers in the adaptation and use of ICTs in Africa, and Acacia is building on IDRC's existing and emerging networks, programmes and partnerships.
