Schoolnet Mozambique            See photos

Schoolnet Mozambique has become an integral component of the Ministry of Education's ICT strategy in education. It was previously founded on a pilot-project basis under the Centre for Informatics at the University of Edouardo Mondlane. This adoption by government validates the IDRC's initial pilot research into schoolnetworking in the country and has gone further to convince the government to ensure lowering of the access costs to schools.

This second phase, which starts in mid 2002, will  add value to the work of Internet para as Escolas, the first phase of the project under the management of CIEUM, by integrating its work into Mozambique's national strategy to achieve universal access to ICTs for all schools in Mozambique. This is -

• in order to  employ a full time co-ordinator to lead the SchoolNet Mozambique initiative;

• to liaise actively with SchoolNet Africa as part of a pan African network;

• to develop a business plan for the next three years which will actively involve teachers and learners and school managers from targeted schools;

• to begin the process of implementing the business plans;

• to integrate an effective monitoring, evaluation and learning system in the planning and implementation phases of the project.
   

The project will also commence a computer  maintenance programme, linked to curriculum development, and find ways of sustaining the activity and report the findings as "lessons learned" relevant to all telecentre/schoolnet projects.
