As a Program Assistant he is responsible for IUCN
Mozambique’s information dissemination and web page production. He reports
to the regional office for his marketing responsibilities.
Soon after he joined IUCN, Otacala began managing the Acacia
project which used wireless connectivity to support ongoing community based
natural resource management activities. Otacala believes that to erradicate
rural poverty, animal populations must be maintained and expanded so that
the benefits of ecoturism can be gained locally. Otacala believes ICTs can
play a role to help inhibiti poaching, ensuring licenses are purchased, and
keeping wardens and scouts safe and healthy in isolated areas.
