Maureen O'Neil
President of IDRC
Maureen O'Neil has spent a good part of her professional life in the
areas of public policy, research, policy analysis and development. She has
worked for a number of Canadian government departments and agencies.
Previous positions include Interim President of the International Centre for
Human Rights and Democratic Development (an independent organization that
works to strengthen laws and democratic institutions), President of the
North-South Institute (a non-governmental policy research organization),
Deputy Minister of Citizenship for the Government of Ontario,
Secretary-General of the Canadian Human Rights Commission, and Co-ordinator
of Status of Women Canada. Ms. O'Neil currently serves on the Board of
Directors of the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral
Assistance (IIDEA), is co-chair of the World Economic Forum's Digital Divide
Supervisory Committee, and is a member of the Markle Foundation's Global
Digital Opportunity Initiative. Ms. O'Neil has a BA in Sociology from
Carleton University and
Honorary LLDs from Carleton University and Wilfrid Laurier University.
